The curious aspect of this lettuce is based on its leaves, greenish inside and with very curly red and purple edges. It has a soft, firm and crisp texture with a fresh and an intact appearance. The lollo rosso is characterized by its soft and slightly bitter taste.
Available from November to May
Its origin is Italian. The reddish colour is given by anthocyanins, which are natural pigments found in other vegetables such as red onions. This variety of lettuce has the property to improve digestion and effectively fight anaemia.
